Justin Holiday, New York Knicks (Unrestricted Free Agent)
Currrent Salary: $1M
Age: 27
At the time of the Derek Rose trade, Jrue Holiday‘s younger brother was looked at as little more than a throw in in the deal. Yes,
there had been whispers over the years that the Sixers, Warriors, and Bulls all liked what they saw from him and were excited for his future growth, but nothing ever materialized on the court. This year, that’s finally changed a bit.
Playing for a dreadful Knicks squad, Holiday has shown glimpses of becoming the 3-and-D wing he profiles as. He’s making over two three’s per 36 minutes at just over 36 percent – not great, but he’s getting there. On defense, if you squint hard enough, you can see a player with all the necessary tools that just needs to be in a functional situation to succeed.
The Knicks seem to want to keep him around. Holiday is only 27 and this is the first time he’s really gotten extended court time for an NBA team, so there’s room for growth. He won’t come cheap though. The safe bet is in the neighborhood of $8-10 million annually, at least.
