NBA Rumors: The Four Best Possible Destinations For Paul George, If He Leaves Indiana
Philadelphia 76ers?
Now wouldn’t this be interesting? The great basketball city of Philadelphia has lacked a superstar for some time. Andre Iguodala was the closest thing to a superstar since Allen Iverson. This team that is coming together in The City of Brotherly Love could use one.
The 76ers have a top-five draft pick this season that will almost assuredly be used on a point guard. Ben Simmons will debut next season. Dario Saric has opened eyes at power forward. Joel Embiid has the five spot on lockdown. Adding George could turn this team into a contender sooner rather than later.
Although George has spent most of his career as a small forward, he might revert back to shooting guard, where he began his career. However, he doesn’t have to change his game very much if at all. He’s an elite scoring option who has the height to create mismatches at guard.
Robert Covington and Ben Simmons both play the three (although Simmons can be a stretch four) but Dario Saric has earned the right to be a starter. Unless Saric and Covington sit (no way Ben Simmons comes off the bench), George would be the two-guard.
This theoretical Sixers team would be eerily reminiscent of the Pacers team that went deep in the postseason recently. Saric, Simmons and possibly Covington would fill roles similar to David West and Luis Scola. Embiid could be as impactful as Roy Hibbert was. Covington’s offensive game is similar to that of Monta Ellis. Whatever guard the Sixers draft will have the potential to be far better than George Hill. Last but not least, Paul George can just be Paul George.
Although calling the 76ers a contender for any reason seems ridiculous given their struggles since “the process” began, George could revitalize the team. He’s one of those rare superstars that can truly take over an entire franchise. In Philadelphia, he’d have the opportunity to do exactly what he does best: lead the scoring assault and stifle everyone else with physical grit.
