Whether you think he’s the NBA MVP or not, Russell Westbrook has been a marvel to watch this season
Russell Westbrook is undoubtedly an NBA MVP candidate, and at this point the majority think he should win the award. Regardless of what you think the MVP race standings are, Brodie is putting up a marvel of a season before our eyes.
According to Thunder Digest, Westbrook needs to average just about four rebounds and six assists per game to complete the season averaging a triple-double. If you haven’t heard yet, he would only be the second player in NBA to do so behind the great Oscar Robertson.
It also isn’t a stat line of just all barely over double-digits, Westbrook is also leading the NBA scoring. It’s actually ridiculous. Russ is also shooting a career high from the three-point line.

I’m about to enter uncharted territory, especially as LeBron fan, but Westbrook also hasn’t missed a game. I hate the narrative where players don’t need rest or they shouldn’t rest if given the opportunity, but Russell Westbrook has played every game this season.
Not only has he played every game, but he has given max effort every single night and has only cared about the number in the win column.
Westbrook also isn’t just dealing with physical fatigue, but mental as well. Having his best teammate and probably best NBA friend depart him to their rival in the offseason is a blow.
A major one at that. On top of that, he has to go into every game every night knowing that if he doesn’t drop a triple-double or at the very least fill up the stat sheet, they are very likely to lose.

Also, the tweet below disproves any notion that Harden makes people around him better than Westbrook does.
Bottom line, NBA MVP or not, Russell Westbrook is having a season that our grandkids will know about. It is truly marvelous, and I am enjoying every minute of it.
