Reason Why It Will Happen #3: Free Agency

Dion: I’m taking Lowry from you and we’re going to be the best backcourt in the East next season.

DeRozan: Yeah, good luck with that buddy.

(Most definitely what was not said, but I think I botched how these things are done)

There are projected to be a possible 136 free agents this offseason, according to realGM.com. Of those, I’m particularly interested in one of them – Dion Waiters.

Waiters bet on himself signing a one year deal with the Miami Heat this season, and has been a big part of their postseason push; all the while looking like a capable starting 2 guard.

Now, to be clear – I’m not saying I think Dion Waiters is the best SG in the league. What I am saying is that I (and many others) were wrong about the career he would have, and I think going to home to Philly would be a cool way to continue his career. Pairing him with a proven All-Star PG and other ball handling forwards in the starting 5 (Saric, Simmons, and Embiid), and you suddenly have a nightmarish offense to defend (on paper).

Other Realistic/Possible Targets: Andre Roberson (don’t laugh, his defense could really help this team), Tyreke Evans (ball-handlers galore, enough depth to ensure he’s as healthy as possible), Nick Young (before the Lakers committed to the youth movement he looked pretty good at the beginning of the season)
