When was the last time the Washington Wizards faced the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Playoffs?

In the history of the NBA Playoffs, we’ve seen teams from the same conference meet each other. Some teams seem to meet each year and other teams see each other barely. In this “Last time they met” series, we’re going to look at the current NBA playoff matchups and review the last time these two teams met in the playoffs.

Let’s talk about the 4th seed Wizards and the 5th seed Hawks. Out of all of the first round matchups this playoffs, these two have met the most and have met the earliest (1965). Then again, these two teams are a couple of original NBA franchises so that adds up.

Last time they met was 2015, so recently. Back then, the Hawks were the 1st seed and the Wizards were 5th. Also, these two teams met in the second round. The Hawks took care of business against the Brooklyn Nets while the Wizards swept the 4th seeded Toronto Raptors.

So now, in this second round, with a chance to make it to the conference finals, these two teams went at it. Things started off with a sort of shocker as the Wizards won the first game. They won by six.

Then, the Hawks was all like “naw” and won Game 2 by 16 points. But, the Wizards struck again and won Game 3. Then the Hawks won the next three games and that was the end. But, hey, the Wizards had fun.

No, really, they did. This was an interesting series where Washington fans fell in love with Paul Pierce. He played his heart out for the Wizards and hit a game winning shot for Game 3.

Unfortunately, their star John Wall was out for half of the series due to injury, so it was assumed the Wizards would lose the series. It’s a shame too because the Wizards actually had a real chance…according to “experts” and fans. Washington was really clicking and their health was really the only thing that doomed them.

2017 might be just as interesting.

They have faced each other 22 times in five series. Washington won three of those series. Here’s the fun part: Both teams have won 11 games.

Also, the longest winning streak is 3 games for either side. I know times change and players come and go, but, man, this is wild. This is a split right down the middle for these two.
