A New Hope

Kristaps Porzingis, in his short time with the New York Knicks, has been nothing short of a revelation. Not only does he do everything on a basketball court that a team could possibly want from a center in 2017, but he’s been exemplary off the court as well.

His work ethic has been well-documented, and he’s said all the right things in the midst of the comedy of errors that has enveloped the organization from the moment he was drafted.

Since that night, the New York Knicks have reverted back to form. They have taken on a role that they have felt most comfortable playing over the better part of the last 20 years (which, not coincidentally, is around the same time that James Dolan inherited the franchise from his father). That is, of course, the role of the fool. Porzingis has been the one and only true bright spot.

There is no doubt that a lot of what has ended up on the back pages in New York has been blown a bit out of proportion, but, then again, Phil Jackson knows how the New York media works as well as anyone. There have been other things, of course, that Phil has no one but himself to blame.
