What happened the last time the Golden State Warriors faced the Utah Jazz in the NBA Playoffs?

In the history of the NBA Playoffs, we’ve seen teams from the same conference meet each other quite often. Some teams seem to meet every year and other teams see each other barely. In this “last time they met” series, we’re going to look at the current NBA Playoff matchups and review the last time these two teams met in the playoffs.

Today, we’ll talk about the second round matchup of the 1st seed Warriors and the 5th seed Utah Jazz. Utah is the only team in the second round to pull off an upset as they were the lower seed in the first round.

That’s interesting because the last time these two teams met, in 2007, the Warriors were the team that pulled off an upset. It was much bigger than the Jazz’s. The 8th seed Warriors took down the Dallas Mavericks. Golden State went up against the 4th seed Jazz in the second round and lost 4-1.

Ah yes, Utah back then was a really good team. Not great. Just good. They proved to be too much for the Warriors. It’s interesting. The Warriors only got one win, but they won by 20 points. The most the Jazz won by was 14 points. One of the Jazz’s wins came in overtime.

Looking at the entire playoffs matchup between these teams, and you can see it’s been close. They’ve played 13 games, with Golden State winning seven and Utah winning six. Here’s something: The Warriors won six games in a row at one point. This almost resulted in two sweeps. Let me explain.

In 1987, Utah won the first 2 games of a best of 5 series. Then, Golden State did that “gentleman’s sweep” of Utah. In 1989, the Warriors went ahead and just swept the Jazz in another best of 5 series. So, that’s the six in a row. This mean, the Warriors have two series wins and the Jazz only have one, but it was the most recent.

For 2017, I can’t see the Jazz winning this series. Can they get in a game? Maybe. Eh…yeah, maybe. Utah’s two game winning streak in their playoff matchup history is gonna end, baby.
