NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly eyeing Lonzo Ball, but the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery will determine their potential fate

The Los Angeles Lakers and Lonzo Ball seem to be a natural pairing. Ball is from the area and he has been public about his desire to play for the organization.

And now, it’s being reported that the Lakers are “enamored” with the idea of drafting Ball in next month’s NBA Draft.

There’s only one problem – or potential problem – with that, though. The NBA Draft Lottery hasn’t taken place. That’s important for one big reason – there’s a better than 50 percent chance that the Lakers will lose their pick.

Specifically, there’s a 53.1 percent chance that they lose their pick (if it falls outside the top 3, it goes to the Philadelphia 76ers). On a positive note, if you’re that type of thinker, there’s a 15.6 percent chance that they land the No. 1 overall pick.

In all likelihood, assuming that the NBA Draft Lottery leaves us with chalk, the Lakers will be picking at No. 3 in next month’s NBA Draft. And if Ball is on the board when the Lakers go on the clock, there’s a good chance that the pick will be the face of the Big Baller Brand.

"[via ESPN]The Lakers appear to be enamored with Ball, a local product who could add star power to a team desperately in search of it. But they’ll likely have to land in the top two to get him."

The overwhelming belief is that the first two picks of the NBA Draft will be Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball so, as ESPN’s Chad Ford mentions in this report, there’s a good chance that even if the Lakers keep their pick they won’t be in position to draft Ball.

But, if the Lakers do jump up in the lottery, expect their target to be Ball.
