NBA Rumors: The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly preparing to extend a “lucrative” offer to Kyle Lowry this summer in free agency

Kyle Lowry has been on record stating that the biggest priority for him this summer, as he enters free agency, will be winning a ring.

Ironically, the team that might be pursuing him the most will be his hometown Philadelphia 76ers. Of course, the big problem with all of this is that the Sixers are far from competing for an NBA Championship – and no, they’re probably not a Kyle Lowry away from getting to that level either.

So, Lowry, who also reportedly has at the very least some level of interest in playing for his hometown Sixers, will have to decide – does he really want to “play for a ring” next season, or does he want to play for his hometown?

(Note: In fairness, if he doesn’t sign with the Warriors, Spurs or Cavaliers, there’s really no chance that he’s playing for a ring next year anyways.)

Either way, the Sixers are getting proactive this summer. They’re planning on extending a “lucrative” offer to Kyle Lowry in free agency.

"[via Philadelphia Inquirer]Sources have said the North Philly native has been interested in playing for the Sixers for some time. The speculation only heightened once Bryan Colangelo became the president of basketball operations in April 2016. As the Raptors general manager, Colangelo acquired Lowry in a trade from the Houston Rockets on July 11, 2012. The two have remained good friends since then. And sources have always said that the Sixers planned to offer Lowry a lucrative contract this summer."

Keith Pompey, the author of this report, doesn’t exactly pinpoint what the “lucrative contract” would be, though you’d have to think that it’s close to a max deal.

From the Sixers standpoint, Lowry could reenergize the franchise, which has been looking for a new – or simply a healthy – face of the franchise. Lowry, a hometown kid, could be that guy for the Sixers. And, at the very least, would definitely make the Sixers more reputable.

After being the laughing stock of the NBA for the past few seasons, that alone might be worth the gamble on Lowry. Question is, though, would Lowry take it?
