The clock has struck midnight on the LA Clippers. What used be a Cinderella in the Western Conference has turned into a pumpkin. An aging core with little youth means the team will possibly go in a different direction in the offseason.
In other words, they’ll blow it up.
At the center of the likely demolition is Blake Griffin, the ultra-athletic post player who uncannily times every hot streak with a serious injury. And as our friends at SBNation say, he’ll be the best free agent on the market. Griffin has an early termination clause in his contract, meaning he can become an unrestricted free agent this summer. And after being drafted by the Clippers, earning All-NBA nods and All-Star appearances in the powder blue, it be weird seeing Griffin in another uniform.
The possibility, nah, the likelihood that Griffin will leave is undeniable. And there are many suitors for the big man. There are strong landing places, places where the popular pitchman would be welcomed. Most of them are contenders, needing one more piece to get over the hump.
