Landing spots for Blake Griffin in free agency
By Ryan Piers
Houston Rockets
There’s something magical about Mike D’Antoni. He’s like a Siren, enchanting athletic floor burners that want to run and score, players that fit his system. D’Antoni did it with Houston, attracting speedy sharpshooters to pair up with James Harden, who he transformed into Steve Nash on steroids.
Now he needs Griffin to be his Amar’e Stoudemire, which is perfect because there are few career archs as symmetrical as Griffin and Stoudemire. Plus, Griffin is an offensive minded post player who likes to get up and down the floor. He can create for himself and others. And as mentioned early, he does have some range. The fit in the D’Antoni system almost seems too perfect.
The Rockets have looked good against the Spurs so far. But their fate is almost undoubtedly an exit before the NBA finals. The team isn’t getting any younger and one more strong player could push them over the top. Bring on Blake Griffin.
