Boston Celtics

There’s just something about Griffin wearing Celtic green that’s intriguing. Maybe it’s the massive contradiction between the teams; the Celtics a cohesive unit that runs an efficient, yet mechanical offense while the Clippers play more ISO ball than the kids at the Venice Beach courts.

There’s the posh of Stables Arena compared to the blue aura at the TD Garden. And of course the incredible history of the Celtics compared to mostly sorrow for the Clippers.

  • There aren’t two more different franchises in the NBA, and Griffin altering from one to the other seems perfectly experimental. It be like putting a human’s head on a monkey’s body.

Logistically the move makes sense too. The Celtics need a power forward to support Al Hortford, badly. They were running Gerald Green at the four against the Chicago Bulls in round one and are already getting beaten up in the post in round two. Griffin, although no longer the rebounding and defensive threat he used to be, would fill that void.

He can be a physically bruising post player and has the athletic ability neutralize opposing offensive rebound kings, say Tristan Thompson or Serge Ibaka.

The Celtics also need to rely less on the three-pointer. They led the NBA and three-point attempts and only 53 percent of their points came from two-point field goals, according to NBA stats. That’s last in the Eastern Conference. Griffin provides a valuable scoring option that isn’t from long range.

This would create space for Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley and the team’s plethora of long-range assassins. And Griffin is a strong passer, fitting in well with the Brad Stevens offense. So Blake Griffin to Boston has a nice ring to it.
