Landing spots for Blake Griffin in free agency

This one might surprise you, but hear me out. The Spurs-Pau Gasol experiment didn’t go exactly as planned. The once nimble giant now lumbers and is completely useless in the pick-and-roll, or any other situation where he’s forced to match up against a guard.

That just doesn’t fly in today’s NBA, especially against the talent out West.
The Spurs are still great, but barring injury they aren’t winning the championship. I’ll give you $20 dollars if they do (my Twitter handle is above and I do PayPal.)
Their best post players can’t defend and some of their best defenders can’t score. The only exception, of course, is their Superman, Kawhi Leonard.
If the Spurs want to hang with the Warriors, or even the rest of the NBA, they need to become younger and more athletic. They need a reliable Robin. Blake Griffin fills both roles, while providing a nice complement to quickly deteriorating LaMarcus Aldridge.

Gasol has a player option and can opt out of $16.9 million to for an early retirement. If he does leave, look for the Spurs to make a play on Griffin. Even if he doesn’t, don’t be shocked if they pull the trigger.
