What happened the last time the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs faced each other in the NBA Playoffs?
Here we are. The Western Conference Finals. The top seed Golden State Warriors are going against the second seed San Antonio Spurs. The last time these teams met in the playoffs was in 2013, clearly before the dominating Warriors we know of today.
Back in 2013, the Spurs were the second seed again while the Warriors were the sixth seed. This was the second round of the playoffs which meant the Warriors pulled off an upset over the third seed Denver Nuggets. It’s funny. The Warriors beat the Nuggets, who were led by Andre Iguodala.
Iguodala immediately joined the Warriors via trade that offseason. That sort of really began the era of the Warriors we know today.

Anyway, the Spurs won the series in six games. It was a decent series too. Something interesting: The leading scorer in 5 out of the 6 games was a Warrior.
But then, points per game, Stephen Curry and Tony Parker both led their teams with 22.5. Very interesting.
San Antonio won the first game. Golden State responded with a win on the road. Things looked interesting. San Antonio jumped back with a Game 3 win. Golden State got Game 4. Whew! These are the types of series you want. Back and forth. Then, the Spurs won the next two game by double-digits, and it was over. Oh.
There were three overtime periods. Game 1 went to double OT and Game 4 had the third OT.
Overall, the playoff history between these two teams has been even. I’m not kidding. They have played 10 games and both teams have won five games. The Spurs won a series and the Warriors won a series, back in 1991.

This time around, the Spurs, for the first time in a while, look like clear underdogs. It would appear that 5 or 6 games is all we will see. The Spurs are not as healthy as you’d like to see, so, yeah. It’s almost kind of wild that these two powerhouses haven’t faced each other in the past few years.
Last year would’ve been really interesting. Ah well. I’ll see you in the Finals. If it’s the same teams as last year, you KNOW I’m gonna have fun with that one.
