Results, fallout and quick takeaways from the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery

Well, the 2017 NBA Draft order is officially set in stone.

Entering the lottery, the Boston Celtics (via Brooklyn Nets) had the highest probability to land the No. 1 pick, followed by the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. When it was all said and done, and when the ping pong balls settled, there was little shakeup at the top.

Of note, the Philadelphia 76ers jumped up one spot and the Phoenix Suns dropped two spots. Other than that, it was pretty much all chalk.

Quick Takeaways

  • The Boston Celtics get the No. 1 pick one day after beating the Washington Wizards in Game 7 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. The rich get richer. Now, will the Celtics trade or keep the pick?
  • The Los Angeles Lakers don’t lose their pick, and they likely will have the opportunity to draft Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz. It’s a great start to the Magic Johnson (new) era in LA.
  • The pick swap happened! They do matter. Thanks to a trade a couple years ago with the Philadelphia 76ers, instead of picking at No. 3, the Sacramento Kings will now pick at 5.
  • The Phoenix Suns fall short again. This time they fall two spots back of where they were supposed to pick. Either way, they should be able to find a quality player at No. 4.
  • Los Angeles and Boston getting the top two picks will probably spark conspiracy theories. Fun.

  • All in all, there wasn’t really anything unexpected that unfolded at the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery. Pretty much chalk. Boo.
