What happened the last time the Cleveland Cavaliers met the Boston Celtics in the NBA Playoffs?

Here we are. The top seed Boston Celtics face off against the 2nd seed Cleveland Cavaliers. Last time these two teams faced each other was 2015. So yes, this was recent. The Cavaliers were the 2nd seed again. The Celtics were the 7th seed.

The teams met in the first round of the playoffs and there’s not much to talk about. Cleveland swept Boston in four games. Only one of the games was decided by more than 10 points. Still, with that said, you never really considered the series a close one that would “scare” the Cavaliers.

Here’s an odd stat: In Game 1, the Cavs won by 13 points. But then, the next three games, they won each by eight points.

This series was really interesting for a major injury though. That was the year Kevin Love got injured by having his arm essentially yanked out by Kelly Olynyk. Love wasn’t too thrilled about that, and for good reason.

Once again, Cleveland is labeled as the favorites to win the series. Most people say the Cavs are 2nd seed because they let it happen. I tend to agree with that. Combined with how vulnerable Boston has looked, I am not convinced the Celtics will win this one.

But, I also don’t see a Cavaliers sweep.

For the entire history, the Celtics and Cavaliers have met 34 times. Boston has won 18 games and Cleveland 16. The Celtics have won four series and the Cavaliers have won two. Out of the six series they’ve had, four of them went to at least six games, which kind of shows things were competitive.

But, when this series is over, it’s likely the Cleveland Cavaliers will have more wins in the matchup history, but will of course still be behind in series wins.
