NBA Rumors: The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to target Derrick Rose in free agency

The Minnesota Timberwolves tried to trade for Derrick Rose at the NBA Trade Deadline this past summer, reportedly. In the end, the trade fell through and Rose remained a member of the New York Knicks for the remainder of the season.

However, now he’s an unrestricted free agent. And the Timberwolves are reportedly still interested.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Wolves intend on making Rose a free agent target this summer. What that really means remains to be seen. Although, it’s pretty clear that Tom Thibodeau still very much remains interested in the thought of Rose joining the Wolves.

Question is, can he finally make it a reality this summer?

"[via ESPN]The Minnesota Timberwolves view Derrick Rose as a potential free agent target this summer, league sources told ESPN.Rose, 28, will be a free agent for the first time in his career after spending last season with the New York Knicks."

Minnesota is in need of an established veteran, that’s pretty clear. However, I’m not really sure if that established veteran should be Derrick Rose. At times this past season, Rose did show flashes of his old self.

Too many times, though, he also showed why he is no longer the centerpiece of any team or a max contract type player. And those moments outnumbered his flashes of brilliance, unfortunately.

Rose, in 64 games this season with the Knicks, averaged 18 points, 4.4 assists and nearly four rebounds per contest. It wasn’t all bad for Rose this past season, though. He shot 47 percent from the field, his highest shooting percentage since his sophomore season in the NBA. Not bad.

Assuming the Timberwolves are intending to pursue Rose, it begs the question as to what this means for Ricky Rubio? Will he be traded this summer, despite playing some of the best basketball of his career during the latter potions of this season?
