Malik Monk

Mock Draft: Pick 6 – Orlando Magic

Malik Monk is a scorer. Plain and simple.

But is he? His main scoring potential lies beyond the three-point arc, however, he shot 39 percent from a decent amount of attempts. In itself, that isn’t horrendous by any means.

However, this is his main way of impacting the scoreboard. He was unimpressive at getting to the rim, leading to under five attempts per game.

When you consider he will likely be playing off the ball at the next level, his size becomes an issue. At 6-foot-4, he is a good-sized point guard, but undersized at the two. He can’t even make up the difference on the defensive end. Whilst he has some of the tools, he was particularly a good defender at Kentucky.

Monk’s success relies fully on him being a competent-to-great three-point shooter. From there, he will need to improve other aspects of his game too. This leaves a player like Monk with an awful lot to do to live up to his high draft rating.
