De’Aaron Fox

Mock Draft: Pick 5 – Sacramento Kings

Ask the Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and many other franchises over the years about how difficult it is to build an offense around a point guard who cannot shoot. De’Aaron Fox fits right into that category.

To make things even worse, Fox is definitely a score-first point guard. He averaged only four assists per game last season. That’s right, a score first guard who can’t shoot. Doesn’t sound promising.

On top of that, he is most likely going to be drafted by the Kings. Now, I am not going to go on a Kings-bashing spree. I, in fact, like the young players the Kings now have. However, the Kings need a point guard who can start and I don’t think a guard like Fox is a great fit for next season.

Yes, Fox and Buddy Hield is an encouraging backcourt. However, if Fox is forced into a starting role too early he will be far too easy to defend. Can you run a pick-and-roll in the NBA if the opposition knows you won’t punish them for going under?
