NBA Rumors: The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly emerged as serious contenders to sign Jrue Holiday away from the Pelicans this summer
Ideally, you’d think that the Dallas Mavericks could find their next franchise point guard in the 2017 NBA Draft. With a top 10 pick, that still remains a possibility.
However, in a guard driven league, and in a draft filled with quality lead guard prospects at the top, the odds that the Mavs will be able to select one of the top point guards in this draft is shrinking by the day.
It seems that nearly every point guard prospect is rising up the NBA Draft boards. From Markelle Fultz to Dennis Smith Jr., we could see four point guards taken in the top 5 or 6 picks.

At No. 9, the Mavs might not have the option to take one of the quality point guard prospects. That will probably leave Dallas once again swinging for one in free agency this summer. But, no big deal. Especially now that they’re considered to be a serious contender to sign Jrue Holiday away from the New Orleans Pelicans.
"[via Jake Fischer of SI]The Dallas Mavericks have emerged as serious contenders to sign Jrue Holiday and his brother Justin, according to league sources. The Holiday brothers have strong interest to play together, per sources, and Justin played w/ Harrison Barnes on Warriors’ 2015 title team."
However, any time a Dallas Mavericks free agency rumors surfaces we must take it with a grain of salt. After all, Dallas seems to be the team that nearly every free agent uses as leverage in order to get the deal they REALLY want.

However, if Dallas can snag the Holiday brothers, as this report suggests, it would be a nice little free agency win – something they haven’t had in a while.
