Who exactly is 2018 NBA Draft prospect Luka Doncic?

The 2017 NBA Draft is officially out the way, so that means it is time to start prepping for the 2018 Draft. First up, who is Euro superstar and touted prospect Luka Doncic?

Luka Doncic was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and is 18. He will be 19 by the time the 2018 NBA Draft comes around. The 6-foot-8 wing phenom has taken the Euroleague by storm as well as NBA draft scouts, writers and more.

We are talking about a player who has point guard passing ability and vision, matched with a solid jumper and elite finishing abilities.

I am not going to dare compare him to any other player currently in the NBA, but he is the real deal.

Last season for Real Madrid, in 20 minutes per game, Doncic average eight points, five rebounds and four assists in the league that is widely considered the second-best – to the NBA – in the world.

Additionally, he shot over 50 percent from the floor, 80 percent from the charity stripe and 35 percent from three-point range. Those are solid numbers for a at-the-time 6-foo-7 17-year-old.

Apart from the solid numbers, he’s very good at scanning the court, finding open teammates and crashing the glass – all the little things that elite NBA prospects do.

Above are his highlights against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He only scored three points this game, but in his highlights, he very well showcased his multiple talents. Numerous times he quickly finds the open man or crashes the boards for a chance at second-chance points.

His defense is also something to be noted, which can consistently be found throughout all his highlights and film. The most notable defensive possession of his is the one below against Westbrook.

Below the attached tweet is his 2016-17 season highlights. Like I have stated numerous times, he is as complete as they come at his age. His technical ability as far as scanning the court and making the correct passes is incredible, and so is his finishing ability. He really is the complete package.

As far as where he is projected to go, he is seen as unanimous Top 5 pick right now. He is also widely considered the second best prospect in the upcoming draft behind Mizzou’s Michael Porter Jr. As more and more people discover Doncic, I expect his stock and reputation to only increase.

I genuinely feel like he is the best Euro prospect we have seen since Dirk, and will be a special player in the NBA. Luka does have one more season with Real Madrid before the draft, and everything he does will be seen under a microscope.

I will say this, though. I am officially on the Doncic bandwagon. And you probably should be too.
