Carmelo Anthony badly needs a fresh start. A potential buyout with the New York Knicks may very well save his career

Via the New York Post and Hoopshype:

"A source confirmed that the Knicks are aware Anthony prefers getting released rather than agreeing to a trade, even if he would lose a trade-kicker bonus. Anthony understands the Cavaliers don’t have the assets to make a deal for him, and this way he can add depth to the Eastern Conference champions without taking away a major piece such as Kevin Love, who is being dangled for Paul George."

Carmelo Anthony’s days as a bona fide superstar in the NBA has long been over. Yes, for sure, the guy can still score. At times, he shows flashes of his offensive brilliance that has made him truly one of the best to ever do it.

Yet, everyone knows that he is no longer a franchise player.

At best, Melo is the “extra boost” that a contending team would need to get over the hump. Thus, a potential buyout to get out of the hell-like situation in New York is the best opportunity (basketball-wise) for the former Syracuse standout.

Carmelo Anthony Teams Up with LeBron James

If Melo gets bought out by the Knicks, it would be the perfect situation for him. First, he gets to receive the $54 Million bucks that the Knicks owe him, or something close to that.

Secondly, and more importantly, he will be able to join his good friend LeBron James and the rest of the Cavaliers without Cleveland having to give up anyone for him.

Carmelo Anthony will taste winning and meaningful basketball for the first time since his days in Denver. And at age 33, it will be the best way for him to kick off his last hurrah.

Carmelo Anthony’s Legacy

Carmelo Anthony may no longer be the guy doing all the lifting. Still, it doesn’t mean that he can no longer be part of something special, right?

Melo is an offensive juggernaut. A natural-born scorer, indeed. Unfortunately, everyone sees him as merely an offensive player.
