Five NBA teams that will likely have a quiet offseason heading into the summer

There’s been a lot of talk about where players are heading this offseason, and we’ve already seen some things go down in recent days. But, I wanted to look at some teams who will probably not do much, if anything, this summer.

In other words, teams that are destined to have a quiet offseason.

Let’s define what “quiet” means. It can be any combination of the following:

  • No cap space to sign free agents
  • No real tradable assets
  • They (by my guess) re-sign players instead of letting them walk
  • Only movement is signing or trading for bench warmers and/or picks. Minor deals

So, basically, the team roster looks the same as last year for the most part.

Golden State Warriors

Why fix what isn’t broken? It’s pretty clear they will retain Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. Durant is looking to take a cut so Andre Iguodala can come back, reportedly. It seems the Warriors will keep the core together for another run.

Nobody else in the league seems anywhere close to being able to challenge the Warriors. I know about the Chris Paul trade, but let’s see how the roster fills out. Besides, they’d need more help anyway.

New York Knicks

Yes, Phil Jackson is out. But, the roster is a mess. Money has not been spent wisely and there’s not much trading that can be done. Whoever takes over is going to have to get really creative or wait out contracts for expiration. Yikes.

Milwaukee Bucks

Here’s a team that seems to be content with waiting for their young players to continue to develop. Save the money for the inevitable extensions that will need to be tossed out there. I expect mainly bench filling stuff from them.

Dallas Mavericks

I don’t see them signing anybody and I can’t see significant trades. Core players are still under contract. You kind of think they would look into doing something because the playoffs are a question mark for this team. But, still, I see them riding until Dirk retires.

Orlando Magic

They have cap space, but who will sign there? Who can they really trade for? I just don’t see anything on the horizon that would make big news like getting a star or rising star.

So, those were five teams that I think you won’t be hearing from much during the 2017 offseason. What team do you think should be on this list? Which one should I take off for that team? There are definitely other teams that could be here if I expanded the list.
