J.J. Redick, SG, Unrestricted

His story?

An off-ball shooter who has improved as his career has progressed. An expert at scoring off screens and is now a very solid team defender. Redick has bounced around the league until finding a semi long-term home at the LA Clippers.

How was his season?

After another season of close but not close enough with the Clippers, Redick was a part of the on fire starting lineup. With other key players, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin looking to go on the market, JJ’s future in LA may rely on the move of his teammates.

Redick posted his worst plus-minus statistic since the 2012-13 season. Along with this, his three-point shooting percentage was its lowest since his first season in LA.

Why is he overrated?

Now, I hear you. “JJ Redick is one of the league’s best sharpshooters, how can he be overrated?”

Well, in a way I would agree with you. However, JJ is looking to sign between $18-$20 million a season. So turns out we’re both wrong, JJ can be overrated.

Redick’s only real skill has been as an off-ball assassin. However, he is making fewer three-pointers every season. As Redick gets older, his solid defense can easily disappear with what is left of his athleticism. Paying an aging shooter $20 million a season sounds like a luxury too great for any team who can afford to pay it.
