Now that they’ve traded for Jimmy Butler, could Kyle Lowry be the missing piece for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Kyle Lowry is one of the biggest names in the free agent pool this offseason. Rumors have circulated that Lowry intends to not return to Toronto, so suitors are beginning to line up for the three-time all-star.
Not many teams are looking for starting point guard, but the Minnesota Timberwolves might be one of those few teams. Minnesota has once again looked into dealing Ricky Rubio. After trading away Kris Dunn in the Jimmy Butler deal, the Wolves currently have Rubio and a developing Tyus Jones penciled in as point guard.
Could the Wolves attract Lowry to join their new big three and be the piece they need to make a push in the West?

Lowry is coming off arguably his best NBA season achieving a career highs in points, three-point percentage, rebounds and minutes per game. Surely Toronto will do everything they can to obtain Lowry and keep him a Raptor for years.
Toronto can offer Lowry the most, giving him a max deal and some teams might shine away from a max deal giving the fact that Lowry is 31 years old. A four year deal, say around $120 Million is a fair prediction of what Lowry could land from another team.
So, why not Minnesota?
Lowry says he wants to win. Many say that Toronto has reached it’s peak with their current core and perhaps Lowry realizes this. Minnesota’s young duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins had people excited for the future and now with the Jimmy Butler their might be a more appealing landing spot for Lowry.
Jimmy Butler reportedly knows that and has been in Lowry’s ear.
Butler not only makes the Wolves a better team, but he is also a recruiter for free agents and makes Minnesota a much more appealing place to play. Butler and Lowry were teammates on the gold medal winning team at the 2016 olympics.
Lowry will have plenty of suitors and if Rubio can be moved, the Minnesota Timberwolves might be a serious threat to bring him in. Free Agency beings July 1st.
