NBA Trade Rumors: As the Boston Celtics continue to try to build toward dethroning the Cleveland Cavaliers, one potential target is Marc Gasol
Signing Gordon Hayward via free agency this summer was a huge win for the Boston Celtics, there’s no question. However, I don’t think anyone would argue that they’re the favorites in the Eastern Conference.
Because they’re not.
Despite signing Hayward, the Celtics still have a uphill battle to dethrone LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The good thing is that Boston has the assets to get a team that can. Question is, after missing out on Jimmy Butler and Paul George, who can they target?

Well, according to Yahoo’s Chris Mannix, a name to keep an eye on is Marc Gasol.
"[via Yahoo]The trade market for stars has momentarily dried up. One player worth keeping an eye on, two league executives told The Vertical: Memphis’ Marc Gasol."
With a handful of Western Conference playoff teams getting better by the minute, via trade or free agency, it leaves the Memphis Grizzlies in a awkward position.
The Golden State Warriors aren’t going anywhere. Neither are the San Antonio Spurs. The Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves all added a star this summer – a figure to all be better than the Grizzlies, at least, on paper.
That leaves two playoff spots. The New Orleans Pelicans will get a full season of DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis, and while the LA Clippers and Utah Jazz each lost a big piece this summer, they figure to be in the mix.
And we also can’t ever count out the dynamic backcourt duo in Portland.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Grizzlies miss the playoffs altogether next season. If so, that would leave a 32-year-old Marc Gasol in an odd position. Maybe he could be moved?
