NBA Rumors: With all the dysfunction in Cleveland, should LeBron James take his talents back to the Miami Heat?

As we probably all know, LeBron James is a free agent at the end of next season and it is far from a foregone conclusion that he is staying with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Is it possible he could return to Miami, though?

He has nothing left to play for in Cleveland. He came back with the goal of bringing a championship to his hometown, and he did just that.

LeBron is a winner, first and foremost, and he knows – better than most – what it’s going to take to defeat the Golden State Warriors’ super team.

Unless Cleveland can get it done this year, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see him leave for a better chance at a title.

People have speculated about him heading to LA to join either the Lakers or Clippers. A few have even suggested that he might join the Spurs in San Antonio. However, the one team that everyone seems to forget about is James’ former team, the Miami Heat.

Why Return To Miami?

For starters, they’re in the East, which has gotten weaker with the departures of Paul MillsapPaul George and Jimmy Butler. This would allow LeBron to rest more and it would mean avoiding the Spurs, Warriors and Rockets in the playoffs, until the Finals obviously.

Also, it’s not like Miami is a bad team either. They have Goran Dragic, who could be an excellent fit next to LeBron, given his thee-point shooting. Hassan Whiteside is also on the team, and is one of the best rebounders/defenders in the league, who has also developed his offensive game. That’s a pretty decent Big 3 right there.

If Dion Waiters continues to play like he did last season before getting injured, it could be a Big 4.

Miami also has some nice young pieces in Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and Tyler Johnson.

Winslow is already one of the best defensive players in the league, and is a jump shot away from becoming an Andre Iguodala type player who could suit up at the power forward spot next to LeBron.

Josh Richardson is an up-and-coming 3 and D combo guard with an excellent touch from outside.

Tyler Johnson is an excellent scorer and playmaker. An instant offence guy that is very well suited to a sixth man role. Though, his contract do make things complicated.

If this Heat team added the best player in the planet (LeBron James), they wouldn’t be too far away from competing with the best in the West.

Miami is in a bit of a bind salary wise, but if LeBron makes the call you better bet Pat Riley will make the necessary adjustments to appease The King.

But For Now…

But for now, LeBron has another full season ahead of him before he worries about all that. Don’t expect him to be thinking about what to do until late June next year.

Until then, he’s got to focus on how to dethrone the juggernaut that is the Golden State Warriors.
