NBA Free Agency: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is now an unrestricted free agency; where should he sign?

The Detroit Pistons have renounced the rights to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Detroit doesn’t really need him anymore, now that they have traded for Avery Bradley to essentially take KCP’s place – they’ll also likely extend his contract after this season.

Now, there aren’t many options left for Caldwell-Pope, in terms of which team to sign with.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

As of right now, there appears to be two main possibilities.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets signed Otto Porter to a max offer sheet last week, but is widely expected to be matched by the Washington Wizards. As soon as it becomes a formality, the Nets could then turn its attention to KCP.

He would form a lethal backcourt next to D’Angelo Russell and would be a great piece for the Nets moving forward.

KCP is an awesome defender and has shown real flashes on the offensive end.

If he can become a more consistent scorer, he will be one of the better two-way players in the NBA.

This would be a great move for Brooklyn, who need assets right now.

Los Angeles Lakers

The other option is the Lakers who would like to have KCP on a big one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Again, he would be a great fit on this young Lakers team.

He could really help Lonzo Ball out on defense and would also provide some shooting on the perimeter.

Also, just imagine if LeBron or Paul George then comes to the Lakers next summer. A team of Ball, Caldwell-Pope, LeBron/George, Randle and Lopez. That would be a special team.

We’ll wait and see what happens.

All in all, KCP is the best free agent still available and he would be an excellent addition to any team. An elite perimeter defender, solid two-way player and a guy who can still take another step on offence.

If Otto Porter is getting over $100 million, this guy deserves a max contract too.
