Wait a minute…what’s that? 2019 is when Kyrie Irving becomes a free agent? And he’s from the area? You don’t say!

For everyone who’d rather lock up Irving via trade rather than go through the drama of free agency, think about this: Irving wants to be in New York now, even after it is coming off of arguably the most embarrassing 12 month span in franchise history (and that’s saying something). If he wants to dive head first into a dumpster fire, imagine how he’ll feel in two years once they get their act together.

Being patient, keeping young assets, making slow but real progress with the same group of players…that doesn’t sound very Knicksy at all. Its smart. Its safe. It has the highest upside. It’s the opposite of what the Knicks would normally do.

And thus, the argument is concluded.

We love you Kyrie. We’re flattered you want to come home. And we think you’ll look amazing decked out head to toe in the orange and blue.
