NBA Rumors: The New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers will reportedly play each other on Christmas Day

Just a couple years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers were the punch line of the NBA. They were in the midst of a full rebuild and were most notably known for tanking their way to top picks.

It’s amazing how much things can change in the matter of two seasons – or, for the Philadelphia 76ers, two offseasons.

According to a report from Spike Eskin of Sportsradio 94WIP, the Sixers are getting a Christmas Day game this season. They will likely play the New York Knicks to open the holiday’s festivities.

It wasn’t too long ago that the Sixers won just 10 games. Now, they’re reportedly slated to play on arguably the biggest national stage when it comes to the NBA’s regular season. It doesn’t get much bigger than playing on Christmas.

As for the Knicks, playing on Christmas has become somewhat a ritual. Although that could probably have more to do with them residing in New York than it has to do with them being any good.

New York. NBA. Christmas. It’s been a staple of our holiday. The Knicks, still a mess.

And with more questions than answers heading into the 2017-18 NBA campaign, perhaps they’ll have a bit more sorted out by Christmas Day than they have now.

*cough* trade Carmelo Anthony already *cough*

Either way, a matchup of future NBA superstars Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingis is what will ultimately drive this pairing. Even if the Sixers and Knicks aren’t on pace for playoff spots in the East by the time Christmas rolls around, the Embiid and Porzingis matchup – assuming both are healthy – will be enough to drive even the casual fans to their televisions.

Expect more of the NBA schedule to be leaked as the NBA season draws closer.
