The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly most interested in young prospects in exchange for Kyrie Irving rather than veteran pieces
When Kyrie Irving shocked the NBA world by demanding a trade, there were two potential options for the Cleveland Cavaliers moving forward. Well, assuming they follow through with his demands, there are two options.
They could either trade Kyrie Irving for veteran pieces to help them in their continued pursuit to dethrone the Golden State Warriors, or they could just try to get the best young prospect in exchange for a player that is a proven star.
And even though no trade is reportedly immediate, it sounds more and more like the Cleveland Cavaliers are eyeing the young prospect route. And a big reason why, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, is because LeBron James continues to not commit to the Cavs long term.

Interestingly, Woj mentioned a few of the reported young prospects that the Cavs are eyeing in any potential trade for Kyrie Irving.
"[via ESPN]The Cavaliers find themselves far more fixated on a young star, including New York’s Kristaps Porzingis, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Phoenix’s Josh Jackson and Denver’s Jamal Murray, league sources told ESPN."
Woj also notes that the Cavaliers and Celtics have held talks, but there has been no offer officially extended. As is always the case, Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics are always one team to keep an eye on when it comes to the star player trade market.
This is an interesting storyline to watch unfold in the last few weeks before NBA training camps open. Would the Cavs really essentially push LeBron out the door by adding a young prospect that would probably not be ready to push Cleveland over the hump in their attempt to dethrone the Warriors?

It might sound a little dramatic on the surface, but let’s remember that LeBron isn’t at the point of his career where he can wait for any young prospect to develop. LeBron is playing for championships at this point in his career. If the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t offer him that, he’ll find a team that will. That’s what history tells us.
