Best Value in Class Rank C: Willie Reed

Class Rank C average: $3,723,903.55 per Win Share
Willie Reed: $375,000.00 per Win Share

Rarely do things ever turn out how you’d expect with stats like these, but when I began brainstorming these formulas to see who the best value signing was, I suspected it was Reed. Outside of the disappointing off-the-court issues Reed has had this summer, this signing was a great one for the Clippers.

Reed is still a work in progress and continues to learn, but on the floor for the Heat last season, Reed held his own playing behind Hassan Whiteside. Reed averaged just 14 minutes per game last season, but his per-36 minutes were pretty good. In the seven games that Reed actually did play more than 20 minutes last season, he averaged about 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Reed’s value certainly spikes because of his rather humble Clipper contract, but judging by the second half of last season, Reed’s Heat team was a quality club and he no doubt contributed value. Reed’s 3.6 win shares and modest, but positive 0.4 VORP make his $1.5 Million signing the best value of any free agent this summer.
