NBA: Ranking all 30 head coaches ahead of the 2017-18 season
11. Mike Budenholzer, Atlanta Hawks
Mike Budenholzer barely misses out on being a top 10 head coach in the NBA here. If you think he cracks the top 10, I would listen to your argument it’s that close. Budenholzer has made something out of nothing for Atlanta the last three years and it is close to wizardry.
He led the Hawks to a 60 win season in 2015 followed by 48 in 2016 and 43 in 2017. All three years those Hawks teams were top 6 in the league in defensive rating. Mike consistently makes his team buy into his style of play which is tough nosed defense and slow-paced offense.
His rosters over the years have been by no means overflowing with talent, yet he consistently gets a top 4 seed in the East. The 2015 NBA coach of the year will have something to prove in 2018.
