NBA Trade Rumors: Because of Isaiah Thomas’ health, the blockbuster deal between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics is now in limbo
Kyrie Irving could be on his way back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Because of the uncertainty regarding his injury, the already agreed upon blockbuster deal between the Boston Celtics and Cavaliers, centered around Kyrie Irving, is currently in limbo.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs are evaluating the results of Thomas’ physical and “considering possible ramifications” of the deal. Woj also notes that Cleveland has not re-engaged the Celtics on talks.

"After All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas underwent a physical examination in Cleveland on Friday, uncertainty over the fitness of his injured hip has Cavaliersofficials evaluating the results and considering possible ramifications to the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics earlier this week, league sources said. One source involved in the process said on Friday night, “It’s a very sensitive situation.” And, as of Saturday morning, team sources told ESPN that Cleveland had not re-engaged Boston to address any issues about the trade."
Woj makes it clear that no final decision has been made, and that the Cleveland Cavaliers could still go through with the agreed upon deal. However, it’s pretty evident that the Cavs are second-thinking something right now.
In addition to Thomas, Boston is also sending Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s 2018 first-round pick to Cleveland. Kyrie Irving is the lone player headed to Boston from Cleveland.
If Thomas doesn’t pass the physical in Cleveland, there are two courses of action. Well, three. But two are likely.
Cleveland could either simply continue to go through with the deal, which seems highly unlikely at this point considering this report is out there. Second, and perhaps the most likely outcome, the Cavs and Celtics could re-engage in trade talks and attempt to find more compensation for Cleveland. For example, the Celtics could add Jayson Tatum or another first-round pick in order to get Cleveland to look pass Thomas’ health.

Third, the deal could altogether fall apart. Thomas would be a Celtic again and Kyrie would find himself in Cleveland.
No matter what happens, this is certainly a storyline to keep an eye on. The NBA, it never sleeps.
