NBA Trade Rumors: Examining the trade market for Anthony Davis, who could be on the move sooner rather than later

The NBA is the league of a thousand subplots. It has taken over from the NFL as America’s true 12 month sport. The summer proved that NBA Twitter should come with a 12 step program.

Yet, for all the wonderful fodder they provide bloggers and talking heads, the unsaid truth is that rarely do any of these storylines have an effect on who hoists the trophy come June. Where that’s concerned, very few things matter.

Are the Warriors still together? Is Pop still curmudgeoning in San Antonio? What jersey is LeBron wearing? After those three, most of the other talking points become inconsequential noise.

Except for one that hasn’t really been discussed at length yet, but should ultimately wind up having a greater effect on the upper echelons of the league’s hierarchy than any of the three above:

Where will Anthony Davis spend the prime of his career?

Zach Lowe has brought up the Celtics pursuit of Davis frequently, and did so again in his recent stellar column on the Kyrie Irving trade. He makes the point – correctly – that should the Pelicans decide to start shopping Davis, Boston could be the early leaders in the clubhouse for his services.

Should and could are the key words there, and require separate discussions entirely.
