Atlanta Hawks 2017-18 season primer: A return to rebuilding
Key Additions
Dewayne Dedmon
Dewayne Dedmon is a very solid signing for a team lacking overall talent. Dedmon is not going to post up on the block and get you buckets, but he will play quality defense and give you a vertical threat in the pick-and-roll game.
Dedmon will substantially increase his minutes per game in Atlanta, given that he only played 17.5 per contest last season with the Spurs. I think that he could average a double-double in a more prominent role this year.
John Collins
The 19th overall pick in the 2017 draft, John Collins could prove to be an integral part of the Hawks’ next crop of talent. He had a sensational summer league, where he had the opportunity to show off his explosive athleticism and put a few opponents on a poster.
Collins should get a lot of opportunities to learn at the highest level, as the Hawks have plenty of motivation to play their young guys
Marco Belinelli
Belinelli, a seasoned veteran, was a part of the uninspiring Dwight Howard trade this summer. While Belinelli shot just 36 percent on 3’s last season, he will be one of the only floor-spacers on this offensively challenged team.
He does not factor into the team’s long-term plans, so it will be interesting to see how many minutes he gets.
