After losing Nikola Mirotic to injury and Bobby Portis to suspension, the Chicago Bulls should look at potentially getting Doug McDermott back

Losing Nikola Mirotic to an unfortunate altercation during team practice, and Bobby Portis to an eight-game suspension, may bode well for the shooter-loaded rebuilding Chicago Bulls.

Fred Hoiberg can now go for a full three-guard shooter lineup or bring up the inexperienced rookie forwards to soak up all the playing time and get themselves in NBA form in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

It’s during these times that you wish the Bulls’ front office didn’t ship out Doug McDermott along with Taj Gibson, because that was really the OKC office putting one over GarPax.

The first few games heading into November may be a trying period with the Bulls, having no muscle at the power forward spot or even a hot scorer.

Quite frankly, the Bulls should try to trade Bobby Portis to the Knicks for Doug McDermott, which could end up being a favorable trade for both teams.

Recovering McDermott should not be a shameful gamble and it may just be the smartest thing the team can do. However, that’s extremely unlikely to happen.

Paul Zipser and Lauri Markannen carrying the team playing the stretch forward spot may work out if the team goes small with rebounding guards like David Nwaba and Denzel Valentine, or get them to run opponents out of the gym once Kris Dunn and Zach LaVine return from injury.

Unless the Chicago Bulls young guards sync into their role and compensate for the lack of shooting bigs by dominating both a running game and a shooting frenzy to keep other teams from clogging the paint, GarPax and Fred Hoiberg should look for some kind of package to sneakily reinsert Doug McDermott back into a Bulls uniform.

McDermott and Markannen could potentially give you high scoring production in their respective games and would not overshadow each other. They’d also fit seemingly with the newcomers, when they return from injury.
