NBA Rumors: The Houston Rockets are expected to shut Chris Paul down for a month, as he continues to struggle with a knee issue

After trading for Chris Paul during the offseason, the buzz around the Houston Rockets was at an all-time high. And after knocking off the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors on opening night, they hype didn’t fade.

Although, it could be time to temper some of those expectations. Not because the Rockets have underperformed, though, but because their prized offseason acquisition will likely sit out the next month with a lingering knee issue.

Paul was held out of the last few minutes in the team’s opening win against the Warriors because of this issue. He was then ruled out of the team’s second game against the Sacramento Kings.

Now, it looks like the Rockets are going to shut him down for a while.

"[via ESPN]Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul will likely be sidelined two to four weeks while recovering from his bruised left knee, sources confirmed to ESPN."

The Rockets are reportedly looking for potential fill-ins while Paul misses time. And, according to ESPN, one of the potential targets is recently waived veteran Jameer Nelson.

Nelson played in 70-plus games for the Denver Nuggets last season, starting 40 of them. He averaged 9.2 points and five assists while shooting 44 percent from the field. If there are no better options out there for Houston – and they could scan the trade market too – then Nelson would likely be the best candidate to fill in the Paul role for a couple weeks.

The hope is that this Chris Paul issue isn’t one that lingers longer than the estimated month that the Rockets have thrown out there. For now, though, that doesn’t seem like an issue.

If Paul misses the estimated month, he would likely miss around 16, or so, games.
