New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis avoids bad injury; considered day-to-day after bumping knees
The good news for New Orleans Pelicans fans is that Anthony Davis is officially day-to-day with a knee injury. The bad news is that Anthony Davis is officially day-to-day with a knee injury.
From all indications, it appears that Davis escaped what could’ve been a “real” knee injury after bumping knees in the first quarter of the team’s Tuesday night game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
However, after undergoing an MRI it appears that Davis shouldn’t miss much time, if any.

"An MRI on the left knee of New Orleans Pelicans All-Star big man Anthony Davis came back negative, coach Alvin Gentry said after the team’s 103-93 lossto the Trail Blazers on Tuesday night in Portland, Oregon.Davis is considered day-to-day, a league source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski."
Davis has a long history of injuries during his stint in the NBA, including multiple knee ailments. Although, after playing the most regular season games of his career thus far in 2016-17 (75), there was growing optimism that Davis had put his past injury woes behind them.
Having to undergo an MRI a week into the new season isn’t great at all, though.
In somewhat of a make-or-break season for the Pelicans, Davis is averaging 24 points and 13 rebounds per game in the first four games of the season. He’s also shooting an impressive 45 percent from 3-point range.
Sporting only a 1-3 record, however, can’t be considered a great start to one of the most important seasons in Pelicans history. With DeMarcus Cousins hitting free agency after the season, the Pelicans can’t afford to underachieve again. And that means they need a healthy Anthony Davis for the majority of the season to ensure that doesn’t happen.
