NBA Rumors: LA Clippers starting point guard Patrick Beverley is expected to miss significant time after undergoing knee surgery

The LA Clippers have lost nine games in a row, and life for them isn’t expected to get any easier.

ESPN reported early Wednesday that Patrick Beverley, the team’s starting point guard, underwent knee surgery that will keep him out a “significant” amount of time. There’s not a clear timetable in place, but he’s expected to miss months from the sound of things.

Which is not good. LA hasn’t gone through a rough patch like this in years – probably since the last time they were without Chris Paul, which was in 2010-11. Beverley not being in the lineup for the next few months, if this report is indeed accurate, is likely going to make things worse. Not better.

"[via ESPN]LA Clippers starting point guard Patrick Beverley underwent a surgical procedure on his right knee Wednesday, league sources tell ESPN.Although there is no immediate timetable for his return, Beverley is expected to miss a significant amount of time, league sources said."

With DeAndre Jordan hitting free agency at the end of the season combined with the team’s woeful start will only make the talk of possibly blowing up this team even louder. And it will apply even more pressure on Doc Rivers.

The Clippers sold Blake Griffin on him being the centerpiece for a contending team in the West – without Chris Paul. Although, it seems the opposite has happened. And that might not even be Blake’s fault. LA simply doesn’t have a great supporting cast.

Part of what made this Clippers team so good in previous seasons is Paul’s presence. Paul was the type of point guard that made his teammates better. The Clippers simply don’t have that type of player on the roster anymore.

Beverley, who was acquired in that Paul deal, was averaging a career high 12.2 points and four rebounds per game this season prior to the injury. Solid numbers, but he’s practically the opposite of what Chris Paul was.

The LA Clippers are in trouble, their future is in doubt and there’s no one coming back to save them. Perhaps it is time to blow it up and start over. Maybe even without Blake Griffin.
