"[via ESPN]Cleveland Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose has left the team and is seriously re-evaluating his future in the NBA, league sources told ESPN."

"There is growing uncertainty inside and outside the franchise about whether he will return to the team, league sources said.…One team source told ESPN of Rose: “He’s tired of being hurt and it’s taking a toll on him mentally.”"
Rose has been plagued by injury ever since being named the youngest NBA MVP after the 2010-11 season. That was also the last year Rose played close to a full season. The most games he’s played in a season since is 66, which happened in 2015-16.
Last season Rose played 64. He’s already missed 11 games so far this season.
Rose signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season in an attempt to prove that he can remain healthy and possibly sign one last huge deal this upcoming summer, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Before he injured his ankle, which is the injury that has forced him to miss the last few games, Rose was averaging 14 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game – all career lows for the former NBA MVP. He’s also playing a career worst 26 minutes per contest this season, though that probably has more to do with the fact that he’s playing on perhaps the most talented team he’s every been a part of.

Wit that said, if Rose isn’t mentally ready to return to the court – or simply doesn’t want to – he shouldn’t. It’s that simple. This decision needs to be made by Rose and his family. Cleveland shouldn’t factor in at all, even though he is technically under contract. From the sound of this report, this sounds like an issue that’s bigger than basketball.
