Question: Is Russell Westbrook getting triple-doubles a bad thing?

Last season, when Westbrook set the NBA on fire with his triple-doubles, the initial thought was: He has no choice. And, really, he didn’t have much help on the court (unless they were helping him get rebounds), so he had to do it all.

This season, he has two other superstars (well, one superstar and a fading superstar) and now I have to think…is Westbrook getting these triple-doubles a good sign?

Some could say, he’s just so great that he can get those numbers despite who he’s playing for. That’s somewhat true. But, his two star teammates spend their time standing around, really. There isn’t much ball movement unless Westbrook is passing to you for an assist on his quest for a triple-double.

Now, if Paul George and Carmelo Anthony were both playing their game as we know them to (even if it’s a lesser version to adapt to star teammates), and Westbrook was stilling getting those numbers, then that’s great. But, they are not. So, tweaks have to be made.

Westbrook is the MVP of that team and I’m fine with him being the center point. But, we already know how this story ends. Last year’s playoffs was too easy for the Rockets. The Thunder will have to figure out how to ensure each of their stars can dominate games together, or it’s another low seed, early exit, and then George and Carmelo are probably gone.
