As the Milwaukee Bucks continue to cruise their way to the top of the East, we explore whether Malcolm Brogdon be re-inserted into the starting lineup

When the Milwaukee Bucks traded for Eric Bledsoe a few weeks ago, head coach Jason Kidd decided to move starting point guard and reigning Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon to the bench.

The decision was somewhat puzzling as Brogdon was arguably playing the best ball of anyone not named Giannis Antetokounmpo, but at the very least understandable.

Since the trade for Bledsoe on November 7th, the Bucks are 9-4 compared to 4-6 before the trade. While the trade has certainly paid off for Milwaukee, the Bucks should experiment with Brogdon starting alongside Bledsoe in the backcourt.

Brogdon is 6-foot-5 and played shooting guard while in college, as well as some last season. Brogdon was having a great season before the trade but since moving to the bench his shooting numbers have fallen a bit.

In the 10 games he was a starter for the Bucks, Brogdon was averaging 16 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field and 46 percent from 3-point range. In the 12 games off the bench, Brogdon’s numbers have dropped to 10 points per contest on 43 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from deep.

Perhaps if he was inserted back into the starting lineup then maybe he could find the rhythm he had before.

A starting lineup of Bledsoe-Brogdon-Middleton-Antetokounmpo-Henson could not only give the Bucks offense more options, but should be one of the Bucks best defensive options.

Currently on the season, Milwaukee has only used this lineup for 24 minutes. During that time the Bucks were 6.2 points better than their opponent per 100 possessions. Out of all Milwaukee lineups that have played at least 20 minutes this season, this lineup has the best points rating, free throw rate and assists per 100 possessions.

If the Bucks were to use this lineup they could still use Brogdon with the 2nd unit if they needed by having him stay in the game when the starters come out and then have this lineup finish games.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a great team that should be in the top 4 of the Eastern Conference. Right now, this team is only 2.5 games back for the third seed. That should be the goal right now; this season. Aside from the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, the Bucks have the talent to play with any other team in the East.

And the lineup with Malcolm Brogdon starting could be a matchup problem for many of those other teams in the East.
