NBA Rumors: The Chicago Bulls are reportedly open to trading Robin Lopez and Nikola Mirotic in exchange for future assets

The Chicago Bulls may have won four games in a row, but I don’t think anyone is going to be penciling them into a playoff spot at any moment this season.

Despite their improved play over the last week and a half, the Bulls are 7-20, good for 14th in the Eastern Conference and are in the midst of a long rebuild after trading away Jimmy Butler over the summer. They currently have the second worst record in the NBA and will likely secure a top 5 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

As the NBA Trade Deadline draws closer, the Bulls are one team to keep an eye on. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls have already made preliminary calls to test the trade waters on veterans Robin Lopez and Nikola Mirotic.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via Chicago Tribune]The Chicago Bulls have made preliminary trade calls to gauge the value of Nikola Mirotic and Robin Lopez. The Bulls are looking to add future assets in terms of draft picks."

Lopez has one more year (after this season) remaining on his contract, and is a valuable starting center in today’s game. Lopez is a solid rebounder, can block shots and doesn’t need the offense to revolve around him to be effective.

As far as Mirotic is concerned, well he’s currently averaging a career high 19.5 points and six rebounds on 57 percent shooting from the field and 52 percent shooting from 3-point range. Albiet in only four games, but Mirotic has looked quite impressive since returning from injury this season.

Quesiton is, what type of return could the Bulls get for Lopez, Mirotic or both. You’d have to think that the starting point in any negotiation involving either of these players is a first-round pick. And if offered that, the Bulls should jump at the opportunity to accept the deal.

Don’t get me wrong, Lopez and Mirotic are good players. They could help a team trying to make a run in the playoffs. Although, considering the road that lies ahead for the Chicago Bulls, it’s probably best for them to accumulate as many assets as possible.

The Bulls are not close. And moving some of their veteran pieces would likely help more in the long run.
