NBA Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers are willing to deal ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, just won’t include the Nets pick in such discussions

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ future might be blurry and somewhat an unknown, largely because of LeBron James, but they have on big asset that could keep them prepared for whatever LeBron decides to do next summer.

The Brooklyn Nets unprotected pick that was the main piece in the Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas swap from this past summer is what could keep the Cavs relevant no matter what LeBron elects to do when he hits free agency.

And despite the recent rumors that have been making their way through NBA circles, the Cavs are reportedly adamant about not moving the valuable pick.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via Sporting News]Nearly two months into the season, circumstances have changed for the Cavaliers, but according to league executives, one thing that has not changed has been Cleveland’s unwillingness to part with that Nets’ pick, even as Brooklyn has exceeded expectations, thus dinging the value of the pick.“They would be open to a deal by all indications,” one general manager told Sporting News. “But they’re not talking about that pick. That’s the Plan B for the LeBron stuff and from what I know, they don’t want to budge on it.”"

And this makes sense, to a certain extent. The problem with the Brooklyn Nets pick paradox is that it might need to be used prior to the NBA Trade Deadline in order to keep LeBron James around – and interested.

If they don’t use the pick, the Cavs likely don’t have the assets to make a game-changing move that will get them over the Golden State Warriors hump. Which could lead to LeBron’s exit from Cleveland.

It’s certainly something that the Cleveland Cavaliers need to think about, if nothing else. If a player like DeMarcus Cousins or Marc Gasol becomes available over the next few months, and the Brooklyn pick is the asset in demand, Cleveland needs to weigh the option.

Cleveland has a difficult decision to make over the next few months. The hardest part of it all is that they probably can’t rely on LeBron for his input, especially considering that he could very well walk away from the franchise for the second time in a few months.
