NBA Rumors: The Boston Celtics remain ready to pounce on a potential Anthony Davis trade, should he become available on the trade block

Over the last handful of seasons, I don’t think you can argue against the fact that Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge has been the best front office man in the league.

During the last few seasons, the Celtics have landed Al Horford, Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving and have hit on numerous draft selections including Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. They have arguably the most talented group of young stars and still have numerous first-round picks in their asset arsenal.

Oh, and they’re also currently the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. It’s actually insane how bright the Celtics’ future is.

If that wasn’t enough, it could actually get a lot brighter with one more big trade. And the one big trade that Ainge is reportedly eyeing is the one for Anthony Davis, the trade that nearly every other GM in the NBA is waiting for.

Davis isn’t currently on the trade block, and the New Orleans Pelicans have no intention on trading Davis, but if that day ever comes, expect the Celtics and Ainge to jump all over that bidding war.

"[via ESPN]Davis remains an obsession of several NBA teams full of the necessary trade assets to unfasten him from New Orleans, should the Pelicans ever consider a rebuild — or should Davis ever request a trade. Boston has remained vigilant on the possibility of acquiring Davis, and Davis knows it. However, the Pelicans have no intention of trading an all-world talent under contract through 2021, no matter the return."

The bad news for the rest of the NBA is that when it comes to trade assets, no one has what the Celtics have.

So in the even that Anthony Davis does hit the trade block, the Boston Celtics will likely be considered the favorites to land the superstar. And that actually might be the final touch that this Celtics roster needs to really compete with teams like the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Question is, when will that time come? The answer likely is, whenever Anthony Davis wants it. And if the Pelicans fall short of the playoffs again, and if the Celtics push the Cavs to six or seven games, or even beat them in the Conference Finals, it could make Davis’ decision a lot easier.
