NBA Rumors: Stephen Curry, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, still not be back for the team’s Christmas game vs Cleveland

Stephen Curry has missed the last five games after injury his ankle earlier this month, but there was hope he could be back for the huge Christmas clash between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Although, the Warriors provided a not so promising update on Curry’s recovery. Technically, the update wasn’t “bad.” It was pretty much expected. However, if you were hoping to see Curry suit up on Christmas Day, that idea is pretty much out the window.

According to the Warriors, Curry will be reevaluated in one week to target a clearer return date.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via Warriors]Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who has missed the team’s last five games due to a sprained right ankle suffered on Dec. 4 at New Orleans, was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff today. The evaluation indicated that the ankle is healing well and that he is making good progress overall, enabling him to progress to modified on-court workouts in the coming days.He will be re-evaluated in one week with the anticipation of having more clarity at that time on a potential return to game action plan."

In Curry’s absence, the Warriors haven’t missed a beat. They’ve won five straight games and are beating opponents by nearly 10 points per game over that span.

Golden State playing with it safe with Curry is no big surprise. In fact, it’s probably the right play here. There’s no rush for him to return to action, even with the fact that the Dubs are trailing the Houston Rockets by two games in the loss column.

After all, the Warriors are officially in the defending champion territory that shouldn’t care about homecourt advantage in the playoffs. You know, the spot where nearly every LeBron James led team has been in about the past decade.

Golden State has shown the ability to win at home, on the road and just about anywhere else. As long as they are healthy, the overwhelming opinion is that this team will make a return to the NBA Finals, and probably beat the Cleveland Cavaliers – or the Boston Celtics – once they get there.

A healthy Stephen Curry is what they need, however. And making a quick return just to play on Christmas Day never really made sense.
