NBA Rumors: The Clippers, Grizzlies and Magic are expected to be sellers as the NBA Trade Deadline draws closer

As the NBA Trade Deadline draws closer, there are going to be all kinds of rumors surrounding potential buyers and sellers.

Usually, the buyers happen to be a handful of contenders – the usual suspects being the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. Although, you could probably add the Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics to that list this season.

The sellers are usually teams that have quality veterans on team-friendly deals or expiring contracts.

Interestingly, Yahoo’s Chris Mannix dropped a bit of a preview a few months ahead of the trade deadline, which is in late February. According to Mannix, he’s been told that three teams to keep an eye on as potential sellers are the LA Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic.

As an additional nugget, he also mentions that the Celtics have been active on the phones. What they’ve been doing to warrant the label “active” remains to be seen.

If this report is in fact accurate, and Mannix does hold solid credibility, it’ll be interesting to see how much the Clippers and Grizzlies would want to sell off. Would Memphis shop Marc Gasol at the deadline? Would LA make Blake Griffin available, too, or is this aiming at just DeAndre Jordan?

As for the Magic, would they be willing to move some of their core pieces?

This report is quite vague, but if the Clippers and Grizzlies are willing to undergo a rebuild, there certainly will be a pretty decent market for their veteran stars. There’s no question that a DeAndre Jordan or Marc Gasol could certainly turn the tide on the playoff race in the East and West.

As for the Celtics, expect Boston to continue to hunt for the big fish. That’s their game right now, knowing full well that they have the assets to lure a potential blockbuster deal.
