Cleveland Cavaliers: There is still no real timetable for Derrick Rose’s return to the court

Derrick Rose hasn’t appeared in a game for the Cleveland Cavaliers since early November. In fact, he’s missed the team’s last 23 games and doesn’t know when he’ll return to action.

But he does want his fans to know that he’s “good” and isn’t depressed.

From the standpoint of his well-being, this is great news. Rose had been out of the news for a few weeks, and there have been no real updates on his status. Even though he’s likely weeks, if not months, away from returning to the court, the fact that he’s in a good place mentally can’t be overstated.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Especially after reports indicated earlier this season that he was contemplating retirement after being a way from the team.

According to Rose, though, he’s with the team, working on his return and in good spirits.

"[via Undefeated]“Be patient. I’m good. I’m just taking my time,” Rose said. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’m not depressed. I’m good. A lot of people think I’m depressed because of what I’m going through. It’s the total opposite. I learned from my mistakes three or four years ago when I put myself into a shell.“And now that I am in this position, it’s only right that I learn from the best. I’m staying with my team, staying with my family, communicating and just being open.”"

Rose was averaging 14 points per game this season before exiting the lineup with an ankle injury. Depending on when he returns, Rose will be playing a different role. Instead of starting, he’ll be coming off the bench backing up Isaiah Thomas.

Thomas is expected to make his season debut in the coming weeks, if not days. He’s been teasing his return on social media, and is upping his workload with the team in practice.

The returns of Thomas and Rose should give the Cleveland Cavaliers a solid shot in the arm for the stretch run.

Credit to the Cavs who haven’t missed Rose much, if at all. In his absence, Cleveland has really taken off. Since his injury, the Cavs are 19-4. I’m not sure there’s a real correlation, but the Cavs have really raised their game in the last few weeks.

The hope is that Derrick Rose returns at some point this season, even though there’s no actual timetable at this point.
