The last 12 games are proof that the Chicago Bulls should not blow the team up, yet

During the last 12 games, the Chicago Bulls are playing like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. One that can not only compete for a playoff spot, but also make some noise if given the opportunity in the postseason.

Since this streak began, the Bulls have beaten the likes of the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers – all potential playoff teams in the East.

Question is, should the team’s performance over the last 12 games change the team’s mindset as the NBA Trade Deadline approaches? Should the team still trade away their veterans – and quite possible a shot at a feel-good playoff run – for future assets?

More from Sir Charles In Charge

A winning season and an inspired playoff run should be more valuable NBA playing experience for the team than losing to get another marquee player or two, to repeat the same winning streak in the future.

It doesn’t make sense to put off winning now and get the team synced for the future with more confidence that they can play against any team.

We don’t know if the team will lose more games without either Robin Lopez or Nikola Mirotic (or even Bobby Portis) in exchange for expiring contracts and future draft picks. But that leaves a bad taste in the mouth among the current young core.

It sends the message that guys – and pretty much anyone – are expendable, even if they are worth their paycheck and deliver the “W” at the end of games.

The Chicago Bulls should pass on trade offers at the moment.

The team is fairing well and Fred Hoiberg is proving that he can motivate the team’s current roster and that he can coach. Perhaps most importantly, this team has great chemistry, which is arguably the most difficult thing to accomplish in the NBA.

Chicago is just five games back if the 8th seed in the loss column, with plenty of basketball to be played this season.

With the idiosyncracies of the different players actually complementing each other, there might be no better exchange out there right now because the team has bonded and plays in sync. Keep the team together and let’s see what they can do.

For the fans, if not for anyone else.

The last 12 games are proof that this Chicago Bulls teams deserves a chance to prove they can hang. If they fall into an ugly losing streak in the near future, this conversation can be had again. But, for now, the Bulls should hold off on trades.
